Abrams' "Lost" it was almost a completely different cast

Line of Events

The survivors of a plane crash are forced to work together to survive on a seemingly deserted tropical island… J. See which A-listers have missed out on one of the most popular TV shows of all time. Sawyer’s character was originally supposed to be an older, sleek, suit-wearing urbanite from Buffalo, New York. However, when Josh Holloway forgot a line during an audition and then kicked a chair in frustration and swore loudly, the writers liked the side of Sawyer’s character and decided to write Sawyer as more of a southern, darker drifter.

Jin and Sun are married and have the last name "Kwon", which becomes an important plot point in the final season. However, when Koreans marry, the wife never takes the husband’s surname. In fact, in Korea, you’re not even allowed to marry someone with the same last name, except in rare cases.. [line repeated] Desmond Hume: See you in another life, brother.. Edited in Lost: The Journey (2005)

In the first blush, "Lost" seems like an impossible concept: a bunch of people trapped on a mysterious island. How many story lines can you POSSIBLY take from it before the idea completely dries up? It’s a valid concern, but completely unfounded in the case of Lost. "Lost," unlike many modern shows where the plot drives the characters, the opposite is actually true: the characters drive the plot. This is not "CSI" or "Law and Order," where each week is a variation on the same theme.

It’s a disaster method

On «Lost» you have a group of fascinatingly different, tragically flawed characters who must somehow learn to survive together while trying to hide their secrets. After a long life together, the heroes will discover that it is impossible to hide their past. Yes, there is a monster on the island. Yes, there are mysterious events. Yes, a sense of dread often hangs in the air.

And it’s exciting to watch

But to me, the external problems created by the island itself are NOTHING compared to the INTERNAL problems the characters have to deal with, both with themselves and each other. That’s where the REAL drama lies.
