How much longer are they going to push this tired old scheme? I know old Hollywood was full of older actors being cast against younger actresses. And the older actor’s character went for her because she was younger. It seems like movies these days are lazy, with the same old woman/young man plot, but the older woman chasing the man is purposeful, and his age is used as some kind of annoying, validating factor.

To prove to herself that she’s still worthy

Funny though, when the male characters are portrayed with much younger actresses, they come across as dirty old men going through a midlife crisis. When an older woman does it, she comes across as "chic" and "liberated." As someone else pointed out here, what with the hypocrisy and double standards. This storyline is getting really tiring, but if they want to keep pushing it, then call it what it is. Dirty old woman who wants to validate herself by catching a younger man.

There are actually a lot of great roles for older actresses

I mean, that’s what women have said about men in the same situation. Haven’t we heard for years that aging actresses are getting aged out of so many movies («unfair») compared to older actors who can still get great roles. Hardly. But why are so many of them tied to this theme of hooking up with a much younger man?

Let’s see some creativity in storytelling

Surely there are better roles for women who have some substance and aren’t maniacal to this same old trope. Let’s see some storylines where some of our great, older actresses are cast, but there’s not another young man. We need to see women empowered through their skills and offerings as successful women. Not just their attempts to establish themselves with younger men.
